RUNNING READS

In the spare time we have when not running or working out, reading books on running seems like a good idea.  Books can have wonderful tips, suggestions, motivating factors and inspiration.  That being said, yeah, who really has "spare time"?? But if you do, here's some reads I recommend.  Check your local library to see if copies are available.  I've included the link to Amazon.com for additional descriptions, reviews and pricing options. The reviews on this page are only reads I find highly useful, effective, interesting or just a plain great read.  If I thought it was boring, useless or a bad read, it won't be on here.  I'
ve included the link to the book site on Amazon.com for you to be able to read additional reviews.
Enjoy!

* By the way, I'm not paid to endorse these reads.  Nor can I guarantee any inspiration or motivation.  If in fact these books annoy or bore you, that's not my fault either.  Just sayin'.

The Long Run   By Matt Long.  A New York Firefighters Triumphant Comeback from Crash Victim to Elite Athlete

This was a great book for overcoming the 'obstacles' we can so easily put in front of us.  Matt Long does his part in calling our b.s and allows us into the world of real physical obstacles, like being literally run over by a bus.  The part that stuck out in my mind and really jerked me awake was when doctors realized he was an elite athlete and made the comment ' his heart is used to working hard'  hence the miracle of his survival and recovery.  I loved getting to know Matt.  Some commented that he was a bit arrogant, but he is real.  He is honest.  His strengths and weaknesses are all laid out in his incredible survival and recovery on the road to being once again an elite athlete.

The Non-Runners Marathon Guide for Women By Dawn Dais.
I loved this book.  It was crass, it was funny, it was real.  I loved the utmost honesty that poured from the author, the good, the bad and the ugly.  While perhaps not super strong running advice for the super serious reader, I will say it was entertaining and had some valid points that other guides may not mention.

The Complete Book of Running For Women By Claire Kowalchik.
This is basically your no-nonsense 'babes, listen up' kinda book that discusses women, running, the basics and a few female details.  It's packed with good information that can advise you on the situations only women find themselves in (we hope) and can make some good suggestions on nutrition, clothing and training.  A good 'go to' book for information and education.
